Description

In this, Orange Countys largest park, the wilderness setting offers a rare opportunity to experience nature in its entire splendor throughout the year. Open for both day use and camping, visitors can enjoy a number of recreational activities, including several unique interpretive programs to acquaint them with the natural splendor of the area.

Alerts and Important Information

The maximum number of motorized vehicles per campsite is 2. A $5 per night fee will be assessed to the second vehicle upon check in at the park.

IMPORTANT - If your camping party has 17 or more campers, you CAN NOT reserve individual campsites. You MUST camp in a group campsite. Please call the park to reserve a group site 949-923-2210.

Ortega Flats Campground - $6.00 electrical per night fee to be paid upon arrival at park.

Starr Mesa Campground - $3.00 per night per horse fee paid upon arrival at park.

Starr Mesa Campground - Must have a horse to camp and please do not disassemble any horse corrals.

Domestic pets not allowed in Caspers Wilderness Park.


Distinguished Veterans

A fee exemption is available for Distinguished Veterans including:

  • Veterans with a 50% or higher service connected disability
  • Prisoners of War
  • Recipients of the Congressional Medal of Honor
  • A valid Distinguished Veteran Pass issued by the California Department of Parks and Rec.
  • A confirming letter from the Department of Veterans Affairs.

Documentation/Proof of age or disability will be required at the time of check in to retain the discount.

Caspers Wilderness Park is located approximately 7-1/2 miles inland from the City of San Juan Capistrano in Southern Orange County. To reach the park, take the Santa Ana (5) or San Diego (405) Freeway to the Ortega Highway (74) exit at San Juan Capistrano, Ortega Highway off ramp. Turn due east, inland, along Ortega Highway and proceed 7-1/2 miles to the park entrance.
